As a garden designer, I strive to integrate my vision with precision, pragmatism, and meticulous attention to detail. Every decision I make is rooted in a deep sense of place and a profound understanding of how natural environments influence human emotions. I intuitively respond to the atmosphere and mood of the site, aiming to capture and convey its unique character. Below, you can discover my design approach:
Initial Meeting
Our process begins with an initial site visit, typically lasting several hours, depending on the size of the area we need to cover. This time is spent walking, talking, and listening closely to your ideas, inspirations, and ambitions. The first impressions of a site’s atmosphere can guide the creative direction of the project. Our discussions help us understand the site’s significance for you and those who live there. Geography, architectural style, site history, orientation, functionality, and maintenance regime are all analyzed to capture and convey the site’s unique character. The meeting can also be held online. In this case, I request photos, videos, and site measurements from the client, and the project is then completed remotely.
Initial Site Analysis, Specifications, and Fee Proposal
In a consultation with you, I develop a detailed technical requirements note, carry out an initial site analysis and calculate the cost of the design. It depends on the complexity of the project, its structure and the size of the site. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome at the stage of agreeing.
Concept Development
Once the technical requirements and cost of the project have been agreed, I begin to develop two different design layouts for discussion with you, which will be presented on plans accompanied by a Mood board – photos of plants, materials, textures, garden furniture and structures collected on one sheet. This collaborative creative process ensures that the final design reflects your vision and preferences.
Detailed design
Once the concept is agreed and approved, I move on to the detailed design phase. This package of documents usually includes a General layout, Dimensional Plan, Vertical Layout Plan, New Paving Plan, Drainage Plan (if necessary), Lighting Plan, Planting Plans with detailed plant specifications, Concept Description, Detailed Drawings of new structures and functional elements (ponds, pergolas, beds, arches, etc.). At this stage I also provide 3D visualisations of the new site arrangement in SketchUp.
Construction
During the construction phase, I visit the site to inspect and advise on the progress. I can also assist in the placement of all plants before planting, ensuring that the implementation perfectly aligns with the design.
After Completion
I usually advise my clients on a regular basis during the work and afterwards, when the garden is ready and the plants are in place, about their care. At your request I can visit the garden and help you with pruning, transplanting, pest control, adding new plants to the planting scheme, making changes as the garden progresses.
