“Ozerny”

Novosibirsk – Private garden 900m2 - Project 2023 – In Progress

A garden is being created for a large family, where children can play on the lawn, enjoy beautiful breakfasts on the veranda, spend cozy evenings with friends by the fireplace, grow fruits and vegetables, and admire the beauty of garden flowers. Based on the family’s needs, the site has been divided into several functional zones that blend harmoniously into one another.

From the gate, the path leads to the central lawn, passing by two stone steps. On a gentle slope to the right, there is a crevice garden with drought-resistant rock plants, planted between the stones. Here you will find Cushion Phlox, Saxifraga arensii, various Sedum species, Thymus “Creeping Red,” and other dwarf perennials. Among the shrubs are Juniperus squamata “Carpet Blue,” Spiraea japonica, Berberis thunbergii “Atropurpurea,” Pinus mugo “Pumilio,” and Ribes alpinum “Schmidt.” As the slope descends, the character of the plantings gradually evolves into a more forest-like appearance. A blue spruce is surrounded by the striking contrast of the autumn foliage of Euonymus alatus and the amber leaves of Physocarpus opulifolius.

A fantastic display of autumn colors, enhanced by the line of dwarf Thuja Danica with light green foliage and lime green Heucherella at the lower level, emphasizes the exotic look of Sumac, which is uncommon in our climate. The curves of the perennials extend into the shade of tall birch trees. Among the shade-loving perennials, blue and chartreuse Hostas stand out like bright spots, the tall and bushy Eupatorium Atropurpureum, accompanied by white Filipendula, proudly stands in front of Corylus maxima Purpurea. The combination of Dryopteris wallichiana and Dryopteris erythrosora “Brilliance” creates a wonderful backdrop for Epimedium and Pulmonaria, interrupted by beautiful mounds of Hakonechloa and Carex oshimensis. Under the shade of the birch trees, a children’s playhouse is perfectly placed. Nearby, slightly sunken flat stones form a semicircle with a fire pit in the center, an ideal spot for relaxing in a large group in the evening. The area is surrounded by decorative and fruit-bearing shrubs: Philadelphus coronarius and Potentilla, black currants and honeysuckle, cherry, plum, and apple trees.

From this spot, the view of the large flower bed is magnificent. The character of the plantings here is traditional, even solemn. Shrubs and Ito hybrid peonies, Floribunda roses, and ground cover roses border the flower bed, interspersed with dense plantings of lavender and sage. Against the beige background of the house wall, the dark purple foliage of the elderberry “Black Lace” stands out. Next to it, the verticals are supported by “Smaragd” Thujas. At the back of the flower bed, a line of scarlet Daylilies stands amidst masses of Fountain Grass, whose elegant arches lean over the path along the house. The plantings on the three sides of the garden are connected by a lawn, a pleasant place for children to play, for hosting family gatherings, or simply to relax peacefully in nature.
